Diary of a Rock Balancer ::

Stone Balance Art created and photographed by Michael Grab — 20 May 2016 — Istria, Croatia ::

“According to convention, I am not simply what I am doing now. I am also what I have done, and my conventionally edited version of my past is made to seem almost more the real “me” than what I am at this moment. For what I am seems so fleeting and intangible, but what I was is fixed and final. It is the firm basis for predictions of what I will be in the future, and so it comes about that I am more closely identified with what no longer exists than with what actually is!”

– Alan Watts

  1. This is spectacular! The light, ripple, reflection and especially, balance , are all divine. Only thing missing for me was the watersound.. .so i climbed in the bath and looked at it from there. :) <3

  2. I saw a guy in Toronto doing the exact same thing on Friday; creating art by positioning stones (from small to massive) atop one another without adhesives of any kind and blowing the minds of his audience ☺ it was very neat!

  3. Even though everytime I see your work new or old. I enjoy the feeling of peace and balance (no pun intented) through the photos this time I am most impressed with the quote too. Now’ll have to look for the autor

  4. Absolument magnifique ! merci, j’aimerai savoir le temps passé pour obtenir ces merveilles ! Evidemment, perso je passerai des jours et des jours et je n’arriverai à rien ;)

  5. Your art is amazing ❤❤ I’ve tried doing the same just for fun and find it sooooo relaxing… wish I was as great as you tho loll

  6. I hear that gorilla glue works wonders ;)

  7. Osho: ” You are a meeting place of gravitation and grace. In you, grace and gravitation are criss-crossing. You have something of the earth and something of the sky within you.”

  8. A book I have purchased over 100 copies that I share with others is: “The wisdom of insecurity” by Alan Watts/ Perhaps my favorite book. Recently a copy was sent to my daughter Amelia, who lives in Boulder. As always stupendous work. Keep it up Michael.

    1. “Wisdom of Insecurity”, along with,”The Book”, by Alan Watts, saved me in my early twenties, setting me on a path from which I never wavered. Not until “Silence of the Heart—dialogues with Robert Adams”, did the path lead to an open field.

    2. MyKa McKinney , When I hit the road (1975) two books that accompanied me were “Wisdom of Insecurity,” and King James Bible. My intent going on the road was to shed all possessions. After three years at it I came to realize that I was just as possessed by having no possessions as i was without them. Since then I am practicing living in the world without attachment to it. I find that is an ongoing unfolding adventure. I high spot is meeting other travelers on the Way. I sense you could be one of those.

  9. Damn if you didn’t just come as close as anybody ever has to explaining the meaning of life and I am as blown away by that as I am by the particular work of yours. This quote is a perfect pairing to this piece.

  10. Wow, this one is so f***** beautiful, excuse my French:) with the sunset as a back drop, this one is very bold looking, BTW I love Allen Watts, I fully enjoy your sense of creativity✝
